The Eastern Edge Women’s Recreational Hockey League is a non-contact ice hockey league for adult women in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Its mandate is to provide an organized, recreational hockey league for women 25 years and older, encompassing a variety of skill levels. However, it strongly encourages and supports new and inexperienced players to become involved and learn in a comfortable environment.
The league supplies scheduled ice time on Friday Nights from 6pm-10pm at the Capital Hyundai Arena with referees and a timekeeper.
The league began in 1999 by a small group of women who wanted to learn the game but didn’t have an outlet to do so at a beginner’s level. They promptly organized a group of interested women who began by practicing at 6:00 am once a week.
From this group a league was formed in 2000 consisting of four teams. Today the league has grown to 8-9 teams playing four games of hockey every Friday night.
